YouTube New Default Player

YouTube has been experimenting with a new website layout and player for some time now. I just noticed that all the videos that I embed in my blogs are played in their new player.

YouTube new default player

Checking the YouTube website, I couldn’t find the link to “revert back to the old design”. Does this mean YouTube has finally crossed over to their new designs? I have been using their new design for quite some time so I do not know when the actual transition took place.

The new layout and player looks more “Web 2.0″ and I like them very much. If only they could fight off the recording companies and allow us to embed all music videos freely in our blogs, I would like them more. *sigh*

Exabytes Launch Business Blog

I am not sure if there are any web hosting companies that have their own business blog. Well, at least I didn’t notice any before this.

Exabytes has just launched their Exabytes blog yesterday. From their first post, they mentioned that they will update their blog with latest happenings, promotions and other latest buzz in the world of web hosting.

I think it is a good idea for companies to have their own blog. Having a blog enables businesses to get closer to their current and potential customers. Check out their latest trade-in your hosting promotion.

YouTube Rollout New Anti-Piracy Filter

YouTube faced a US$1bil lawsuit when Viacom Inc sued the video sharing portal for having copyrighted music videos in its archives. Previously, YouTube removed all copyrighted videos only upon request by the copyright owner of the media. However, this may not be the most effective way because other users could upload the video again right after the first copy was removed.

The Star ran an article yesterday stating that YouTube has successfully rolled out a tool that automatically removes copyrighted clips. Owners of the copyrighted clips can either choose to block their clips from appearing on YouTube or to allow them. If they chose the latter, ads can be sold around the clips to generate income for the owner. It is a win-win situation that the owner of the copyrighted clips needs to decide upon.

Wii Remote Jacket To Prevent Wii From Slipping Off

Some have reported that their Wii remote slipped off their hand while playing the Wii. I guess the entire concept of the Wii remote may be so new that even the developers did not think that this problem will arise earlier. Who would have thought that a game remote will require a hand grip, right?

However, when you think of how the Wii remote is being used to play games like golf and tennis where it requires the player to swing the remote “wildly”, it really is a no brainer thing. Rackets and golf sticks have handle grips, why not the Wii?

Nintendo announced a new free Wii Remote jacket accessory. It enhances grip levels of the Wii remote to prevent it from slipping off. This new addon will be available in the middle of October. All new purchases after that should receive a free Wii remote jacket when they buy a Wii. Current Wii owners can order their Wii remote jacket for free at wii.com or Nintendo.com.
