.com.my To Cost Maximum RM80 For 3 Months

MYNIC has just announced that there will be a 3 months price promotion for 7 .my top level domain names starting from 5th June 2007 to 5th September 2007. Domain names for .com.my, .net.my, org.my, .gov.my, .edu.my and mil.my will cost a maximum of RM80 while .name.my will cost a maximum of RM32. This price promotion includes new domain registration and domain renewal as well.

According to MYNIC, the actual price that each MYNIC reseller charges may vary. However, the maximum they can charge a customer remains RM80 and RM32 as mentioned above. Do check out the MYNIC resellers list to find out who is giving out the best bargain.

If you have always wanted to get yourself a .my domain name, NOW is the time. Well, maybe not exactly NOW but between 5th June 2007 to 5th September 2007. For those who have already owned one (or more), I would recommend you to renew your domain name(s) within that promotion period as well.

      I think we couldn’t register it under individual’s name, right?

      @hanneng
      Maybe.

      @KennyP
      Registering a .my domain name is a lot stricter than registering a normal .com, .net etc. For .com.my, .net.my and .org.my, you will need to own a company, partnership, sole proprietor, organisation, etc). .gov.my is for government sites, etc. (Read this)

      However, a .name.my can be registered under an individual’s name above 18 years. Read this and this.

      So actually the promotion is nothing, because I think the companies wound’t mind a few ringgits differrent

      It really depends. Not all who owns or plans to own a .my domain name are BIG companies. Anyway, if they can save at least RM20, why not?

      funny thing – you can actually buy a dotcom for about US 5.00 to USD 7.00 on average or approximately RM 20 to RM 30 maximum –

      BUT here in Malaysia discounted price is maximum of RM 80

      some more must buy before 5 September under the 50 years Merdeka Celebration
      my view is that .com.my domain pricing should be lower

      ideally it should be below RM 30 and we will see an explosion in Malaysian domains

      still good news – the money i save can pay for my naan cheese and more at Steven’s Corner

      anyway i am going a few domains for myself

      I notice some “international” sites do sell .com domains for under USD10. However, country specific domains like .com.my for example can only be sold by “selected providers” of that particular country. Generally, such domains do cost more than .com domains (I think).

      This is a price list for .com, .com.sg, etc. Prices should be in Sing dollars. Notice that a .com.sg does costs 2-3 times more than a .com.

      I guess it’s because registering country specific domains requires extra paper work and verification. Therefore it costs more.

      Exabytes is selling .com.my for RM50. Maybe you would like to check that out.
