Earn RM1668.20 in a day…

… at least that’s what the advertisement reads.

(Disclaimer: TenthOfMarch.com is neither affiliated with the advertisement nor responsible for its content. In fact, TenthOfMarch.com advices you against joining such a program.)

I found this paper advertisement stuck on the car’s wiper one day. As usual I wanted to just throw it away. However, I stopped when I saw “BERITA BAIK” written in big bold letters, which means “GOOD NEWS”. Well, who wouldn’t need a good news once a while right? So I continue reading. It read, “daily income, paid daily!”. Wow! I would definitely benefit from a little extra income. It also claims that the company is registered and recognized by the government of Malaysia. Should be safe then, right?

One big problem, what’s their company name? They said they’re registered, but company name also dare not include in the advertisement?

Even their so called “proof of profit” is so poorly designed. It looks like they just typed it from Microsoft Word and printed it out. If they want to be more convincing, at least print out a photocopy cheque, or a proper computer generated statement. Doing it their way only spells S-T-U-P-I-D on their face.

Penerangan melalui telefon tidak akan dilayan kerana jadual kami yang ketat“.

Wah, really so busy? Or they just have no balls to talk to me? Try lying into my face.

If those figures is not enough to attract you, they’ve also included a ‘real success story’. Apparently some guy named “Bob” had some serious financial crisis. But after joining this program, his whole life changed. In a little over 2 months, he and his wife managed to earn well over RM60,000.

I smell crap. One stinky crap from a big rat.

Advertisement real story

I would like to take this opportunity to advice all my fellow Malaysians, please use your head. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true. There’s a big variety of scams out there. Sorry for saying this but some is so lame that you must be retarded to be fooled. Imagine this…

“Congratulations sir! You are the luckiest person on earth! You’ve just won RM1 million from us. However, before you can get your RM1 million, you’ll need to pay us RM20,000 for taxes. It’s the law.”

Who in their right mind would believe such a scam? If I really need to pay taxes also, can’t I pay later? Or just deduct from the RM1 million lah. Dumb ass. Some people did got fooled.

As Phua Chu Kang always say…..”use your brain, use your brain, use your braaainnn….”.

What Are You Looking For?

It’s very common in Malaysia that whenever an accident happens, people will stop and look. It doesn’t matter how serious the accident is, people will stop and look. Dozens of people will stand by the roadside to watch. Even those driving or riding a motorbike will slow down to look. Among all those looking, only a handful will actually lend a hand to the victims. This will then lead to a jam.

When I was reading the papers today, I came across the picture below.

Photo snapped from The Star 16 March 2007

The caption clearly states that all motorists were “slowing down to have a closer look at the trailer“. Is it a Malaysia’s culture to be busybody when an accident happens? It’s like everyone’s looking for something. So…WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Dropped a coin ah?

Want to see got blood or not ah?

Trailer’s number plate ah? (to buy 4D)

“WAN HAI” ah? :twisted:

I Want To Be Superman

Some random conversation….

boy: ah? become superman ah?
girl: yeah loh. you like to be superman too right?
boy: Yes …… x-ray eyes.
girl: hamsap! ……

Tutorial: How to embed flash video in your blog without breaking validation

Have you embedded a video into your blog and notice that it broke your validation? Videos from sites such as YouTube, Google Video and Metacafe provides custom codes to allow you to embed their videos into your blog. Here, I would like to provide you with a solution to that problem. This tutorial is possible thanks to C.K. Sample III who has provided a nicely modified code to replace the default codes given by those sites.

This tutorial will guide you to embed a YouTube video into your blog without breaking validation. I have only tested the codes on Youtube and metacafe. While C.K. Sample III has tested it on Google Video as well. It should work for all (i think) video sites that provide their videos in flash format, as long as you follow these guides below. Tell me if it doesn’t work on any sites that you’ve tried!

Step 1: Select the video to embed into your blog. I’ve chosen this video from YouTube.

Step 2: On the right of the video, you’ll find the “Embed” codes shown in the picture below. Copy the codes, and paste it in a word editor.

Embed Codes By YouTube

Embed codes given by YouTube:

<object width=”425″ height=”350″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/wk5dw7JU6D0“></param><param name=”wmode” value=”transparent”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/wk5dw7JU6D0” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=”transparent” width=”425″ height=”350″></embed></object>

What you need is the bolded links above which is http://www.youtube.com/v/wk5dw7JU6D0. Copy that down, you’ll need it later.

Step 3: Copy the codes below (provided by C.K. Sample III) and paste it in your blog where you want the video to be displayed.

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="[INSERT VIDEO URL FROM EMBED CODE PROVIDED HERE]" width="400" height="326">
<param name="movie" value="[INSERT VIDEO URL FROM EMBED CODE PROVIDED HERE]" />
<param name="FlashVars" value="playerMode=embedded" /></object>

Step 4: Replace [INSERT VIDEO URL FROM EMBED CODE PROVIDED HERE] with the bolded codes from Step 2.

Your finished codes should look like this:

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/wk5dw7JU6D0" width="400" height="326">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wk5dw7JU6D0" />
<param name="FlashVars" value="playerMode=embedded" /></object>

There you go. Hope this tutorial helped.

Sucker For Perfection

For those who have worked with me on projects before, you’ll know that I’m such a sucker for perfection. Everything has to be done right. Everything has to be done now. Sometimes I give myself unnecessary pressure, and probably to the people around me as well.

When I started blogging, I notice most blogs (by default) have a link that leads to a page that validates their HTML files. 9 out of 10 of blogs that I visited do not have valid HTML codings. When I started my blog, both my HTML and CSS files are valid, and I plan to keep it that way throughout my blogging life. Why, you may ask. Why not, is my answer. I want to be different. I want things to be right. I want things to be perfect. Probably it’s because my head is not hurting enough…and I’m looking for problems. Anyway, that’s just the right way to do it.

Every time after publishing a new post, I’ll validate my post and correct any errors that occur. So far everything is under control until I wrote my previous post. For the first time I had to embed a youtube flash video into my post. I had my worries that this may cause a problem but put my fears aside soon after. We’re talking about youtube here, I’m sure their codes must be valid right? Well, I was wrong. It turned out that the codes they provided was not valid.

Then the million dollar question pop up. Should I continue with my quest for perfection? Or do I just smash my ego on the ground like shattered glass? I wasn’t going to give up that easily. I went to google for a solution and found C.K. Sample III. Thanks to him, my site is 100% valid once again.

Catch my next blog where I’ll provide a tutorial to embed youtube videos into your blog without breaking your site’s validation.
